Intermediate Hydrogeologist
Join KCB as an Intermediate Hydrogeologist and help deliver sustainable groundwater solutions from fieldwork to modelling, with a collaborative global team.
About the role
Join our Groundwater team as an Intermediate Hydrogeologist working on diverse water resources, mine water management, and environmental hydrogeology projects. You will support project delivery from concept through construction monitoring and closure, contributing technical hydrogeological assessments, field investigations, numerical groundwater modelling, and client-facing reporting.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
Plan, implement and supervise hydrogeological field programs including drilling, well installation, aquifer testing, groundwater sampling and monitoring system installation
Undertake groundwater conceptualisation and numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modelling using industry-standard codes
Analyse hydrogeological and geochemical data, interpret results and prepare clear technical reports, figures and presentations for clients and regulators
Provide hydrogeological input to site water balance, mine water management, dewatering design, and closure planning
Support environmental and permitting workstreams including groundwater risk assessments and monitoring programme design
Work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams (geotechnical, civil, environmental) to resolve technical issues and produce integrated solutions
Supervise and mentor junior hydrogeologists and technicians, and contribute to business development and proposal preparation
We are looking for someone who has:
A BSc or MSc in Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
Typically 3–7 years’ relevant professional experience in hydrogeology or groundwater science, preferably in mining, water resources or contaminated land contexts
Practical experience with groundwater field techniques (drilling supervision, well installation, slug/pump tests, sampling) and monitoring equipment
Experience developing conceptual site models and numerical groundwater flow/transport models (e.g. MODFLOW, FEFLOW, or equivalent)
Strong technical writing and data visualisation skills with experience producing technical reports and client-ready deliverables
Proficiency with hydrogeological and general software such as GIS, Excel, and statistical or modelling tools
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Willingness to travel to field sites, work on rotations and in remote or challenging environments as required
Desirable (but not essential):
Professional registration or eligibility for registration with a recognised UK, Canadian or international professional body
Experience in mine water management, tailings pore-water assessment, or contaminated site remediation
Familiarity with environmental permitting and regulatory frameworks
Field safety tickets and first aid certification appropriate to site work
About you
You demonstrate an analytical mindset, attention to detail and a pragmatic approach to problem solving. You are keen to grow technical expertise while supporting junior staff and engaging directly with clients and regulators. You value collaboration, adaptability and a commitment to safe and ethical field practice.
