From concept to closure, our teams work on some of the mining and water industry’s most complex and rewarding projects. As part of KCB, you’ll play a key role in the delivery of tailings and waste storage facilities, dams, water management systems, and mine infrastructure projects, applying your technical expertise and providing leadership across the full project lifecycle.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for Senior Civil Engineers (Geotechnical) to join our integrated, multi‑disciplinary team based in Brisbane, Queensland.
In this role, you'll lead and contribute to the design, investigation, and construction of large-scale mining projects, including tailings residue and waste storage facilities and a range of water management structures (such as spillways, diversion channels, and pipelines). You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, provide technical guidance to junior engineers, and contribute to delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Civil Engineer (Geotechnical), you will:
Lead and undertake geotechnical field investigations and construction monitoring for mine waste management facilities (e.g. tailings dams, waste rock dumps) and associated mine infrastructure.
Plan and oversee field programs including drilling, testing, sampling, field mapping, and earthworks monitoring, ensuring quality & safety standards are met.
Conduct and review desktop assessments, including interpretation of geological and geotechnical data and development of engineering recommendations.
Apply advanced geotechnical analysis and modelling tools (such as Slope/W, Seep/W, PLAXIS, Muk3D and similar software) to support project delivery.
Prepare and review engineering deliverables, including technical reports, drawings, specifications, presentations, and design documentation.
Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers and graduates.
Contribute to project management activities including planning, coordination, budgeting, scheduling, and client engagement.
Work in accordance with KCB’s Quality Management System and Health & Safety requirements.
Collaborate with KCB teams across Australia and internationally as project needs arise.
What You Bring
We are seeking an experienced engineer who can combine strong technical capability with leadership, mentoring, and client-focused project delivery. To be successful in this role, you will have:
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Geotechnical)
Approximately 8+ years’ experience in tailings, geotechnical, mining or related engineering roles.
A strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering and geotechnical design principals.
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:
Tailings storage facility design and management
Dam and embankment design
Slope stability and seepage analysis
Earthworks and construction supervision
Site investigation programs and fieldwork management
Working knowledge of industry standards and guidelines such as ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM, and CDA
Experience using geotechnical analysis software including PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, or equivalent.
Strong technical report writing and review skills.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Experience engaging directly with clients and managing project deliverables is highly regarded.
Chartered status (CPEng/RPEQ) or progress toward chartership will be highly regarded.
