Civil Engineer (Geotechnical)
KCB offers you an opportunity to be part of a team that is small enough for all faces to be familiar, yet big enough to work on some Australia's most complex & rewarding engineering projects.
KCB is a multidisciplinary engineering, geoscience, and environmental consulting firm grounded in our values of Passion, Integrity, and Excellence. With teams across North America, South America, Australasia, and Europe, we bring together global technical knowledge, local insight, and a shared commitment to solving complex challenges that matter.
Guided by our long-term ambition of Globally Connected Excellence and our purpose of Sustaining the Future, we work alongside our clients to deliver lasting solutions that strengthen resilience and benefit future generations.
From concept to closure, our teams work on some of the mining and water industry’s most complex and rewarding projects. As part of KCB, you’ll gain hands‑on experience across tailings and waste storage facilities, dams, water management systems, and mine infrastructure, while building your technical capability and confidence across the full project lifecycle.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for Civil Engineers (Geotechnical) to join our integrated, multi‑disciplinary team based in Brisbane, Queensland.
In this role, you’ll support and contribute to the design, investigation, and construction of large‑scale mining projects, including tailings residue and waste storage facilities and a range of water management structures (such as spillways, diversion channels, and pipelines). You’ll work closely with experienced Civil & Geotechnical engineers who are committed to mentoring and knowledge‑sharing.
What You Will Do
With guidance and support from senior team members, you will:
Assist with geotechnical field investigations and construction monitoring for mine waste management facilities (e.g. tailings dams, waste rock dumps) and associated mine infrastructure.
Support field programs including drilling, testing, sampling, and field mapping, as well as earthworks monitoring and coordination.
Contribute to desktop assessments, including collecting, organising, and interpreting geological and geotechnical data.
Learn and apply geotechnical analysis and modelling tools (such as Slope/W, Seep/W, Muk3D and similar software). Training and support will be provided.
Assist with the preparation of engineering deliverables, including technical reports, drawings, specifications, presentations, and quantities.
Provide general project support, including coordination and client‑related tasks under supervision.
Work in accordance with KCB’s Quality Management System and Health & Safety requirements.
Collaborate with KCB teams across Australia and internationally as project needs arise.
What You Bring
We value the experience you’ve gained so far and are keen to help you grow further. To be successful in this role, you will have:
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Geotechnical)
Approximately 3–7 years’ experience in geotechnical or related engineering roles.
A developing understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering.
Exposure to one or more of the following:

Laboratory testing of soils and rock
Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines such as ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM, and CDA (or a willingness to learn).
Experience with geotechnical software (e.g. PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W) is advantageous.
Strong written communication skills and an interest in developing high quality technical reports.
