Intermediate Geotechnical Civil Engineer
Join KCB as an Intermediate Geotechnical Civil Engineer, tackling dam and mine infrastructure with a collaborative, inclusive team. Lead, grow, and deliver safe, high-quality solutions.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical Civil Engineer with solid technical experience in geotechnical engineering, dam and mine waste facility design, and multidisciplinary project coordination. This professional will work both independently and collaboratively, applying advanced technical knowledge, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to evaluate alternatives and propose effective solutions.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, leadership potential, and a proactive attitude toward problem‑solving and continuous improvement. This role requires interaction with internal teams (Engineering, Water Resources, CAD/GIS) and external stakeholders, including clients and field teams.
You will thrive in this role if you combine strong technical depth with the ability to support and guide junior engineers, collaborate across disciplines, and uphold high standards of quality, safety, and engineering best practices.
What you will do
In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of technical and coordination tasks across geotechnical and mining infrastructure projects, including:
Core Responsibilities
Prepare and defend technical engineering reports for internal senior reviewers and clients.
Develop and review engineering designs for dams, tailings storage facilities, waste rock piles, and other mining structures to ensure adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Provide technical support to both project teams and field teams involved in inspection, supervision, quality control, and construction activities.
Perform and interpret geotechnical stability analyses, stress‑strain evaluations, seepage modeling, and numerical simulations in accordance with engineering best practices.
Coordinate and supervise the work of junior engineers, designers, and interns, promoting collaboration across multidisciplinary teams (CAD/GIS, water resources, environmental).
Support project coordination, assisting the Project Manager throughout the project lifecycle.
Ensure compliance with the organization’s Integrated Management System policies and guidelines.
Specific Responsibilities
Specify, interpret, and report results from geotechnical instrumentation and laboratory testing of natural materials, tailings, and waste rock.
Communicate directly with clients regarding project progress and pending tests across project phases.
Develop geometric configurations for structures and channels, and design components such as tailings dams, waste dumps, leach pads, access roads, and drainage channels using Civil 3D.
What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Master of Science in Civil Engineering (or Geotechnical Engineering)
Specialization in Geotechnics, project management, or civil construction (in progress or completed is an asset).
Intermediate English and basic Spanish (desired).
