KCB is seeking an in-house Legal Counsel to join our Corporate Group in our Vancouver office. Reporting directly to KCB's General Counsel, this role will provide legal support to our global business units. Applying diversity, equity and inclusion best practices, the role of Legal Counsel comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to:
Provide legal services during pursuit, negotiation, and delivery stages for construction and engineering projects using various delivery models across public and private markets.
Draft, review and maintain KCB generated client and subcontractor agreements, ensuring best practices are applied.
Collaborate with the General Counsel, disputes counsel, and the risk management team to provide strategic support for potential claims and disputes.
Provide legal advice as a trusted legal advisor to our various Business Units, including P&T (Power and Transportation) and MEG (Mining Environmental Group).
Monitor legal and contracting trends in the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) industry.
Collaborate across the Legal, Compliance and IMS department to support the development and implementation of policies and processes to improve efficiency and risk management.
Collaborate with the General Counsel to develop and implement role-related training programs for the various Business Units and project teams.
Perform other duties and responsibilities requiring general legal advice as required from time to time.
What we require:
We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however require the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in law (JD or LLB) from an accredited law school.
Admitted to practice law in British Columbia and in good standing.
3+ years of experience practicing law either in-house or with a well-recognized law firm.
Collaborative, pragmatic, and effective communication skills to interact across the organization with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
Must be able to work independently when faced with challenges that require multidisciplinary collaboration, robust relationships, and personal commitment to resolve.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, consistently meet deadlines, and manage high-volume of work while exercising sound judgment and commercial acumen.
Ability to support collaboration and operate effectively in a team environment.
A keen interest in Engineering and Geoscience services.
Aptitude to identify and manage risk.
What makes you stand out:
In addition to the must have requirements, you will excel in the role if you have the following:
Experience negotiating and drafting complex agreements in the EPC industry preferred but not required.
Exposure to applicable legislation in other regions which we operate is considered an asset (UK, Ireland, Australia, and USA).
Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
Knowledge of Canadian federal, provincial, and local public laws related to the EPC industry preferred but not required.
The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $145,000 per year based on applicable experience, education, and skill level. In addition to salary total rewards includes:
