What you would engage in:
Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. If continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group, based out our Vancouver office. The role of Geotechnical Engineer comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to:
- Work on a variety of geotechnical projects that may include site characterization, slope stability, numerical modeling, water management design, foundation design, tailings and water retention embankment design, earthworks and construction.
- Visit project sites, gather information as required to complement design activities and get involved in site investigation and drilling programs, core logging, lab testing, instrumentation installations and monitoring, as well as data review and analysis.
- Perform quality assurance/quality control and on-site engineering activities during construction.
- Work with diverse teams of discipline engineers and designers from conceptual design through to construction and operations through to closure.
- Receive on-going guidance and mentorship from leaders in the industry in a supportive, dynamic company culture that supports career development.
In addition to the above, KCB currently has a specific site-based project requirement that an applicant for this position should be willing to take on:
- The project is located near Kamloops, BC and site work is expected from mid-March to mid-December in 2026 and 2027.
- The site-based project schedule is based on a two-weeks on two-weeks off rotation schedule.
- Project-specific activities will include performing quality assurance testing in the field and in the on-site laboratory; management of construction data; reporting on compliance with design; and on-site engineering, supporting our Vancouver-based design team.
What we require:
We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however require the following qualifications:
- A degree in civil or geological engineering, with a track record of continued development.
- 0-2 years of geotechnical engineering experience related to design, slope stability analysis, instrumentation installation and monitoring.
- You must be eligible to register as an engineer-in-training (EIT) in Canada.
- An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams.
- Commitment to a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements.
- Class 5 driver’s license with a safe driving record. Experience with off-road driving and driving larger vehicles (e.g., pickup trucks) is an asset.
In addition to the must have requirements, you will excel in the role if you have the following:
- An ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them
- An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners
- Demonstrate that you are flexible and seek solutions rather than focus on problems
The salary for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 per year. Salary is based on applicable experience, education, and skill level.
