Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Tailings & Mine Waste

We’re seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to help grow our Newcastle office, initially supporting our Brisbane-based team on mining and resource projects across Australia and overseas.
You’ll apply your expertise to the planning, investigation, assessment, design, and construction of tailings and water dams, waste storage facilities, and mine infrastructure for both resource and non-resource clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support tailings storage facility (TSF) projects across all phases—design, construction, operation, and closure
- Provide technical expertise in tailings management, dam design, geo-structures, and operational support
- Ensure successful project delivery through effective planning, control, and direction
- Prepare and review technical documentation including reports, drawings, specifications, risk assessments, bills of quantities, and cost estimates
- Build strong client relationships, guiding projects from feasibility through to mine closure
- Travel to project sites across Australia and internationally as required
- Expand your knowledge by attending conferences, trainings, and seminars
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering
- 10+ years of geotechnical experience, with a focus on TSF projects
- CPEng / RPEQ certification, or eligibility within 12 months
- Strong skills in slope stability, seepage analysis, dam design, earthworks, and site investigation
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and build client relationships
- Experience in a safety-focused environment, including near-miss and incident reporting
